The Luzerne Conservation District recently published its latest newsletter focusing on mosquito control and public health efforts for the upcoming season. Because of early warm temperatures and flooded floodplains, their team kicked off large-scale larval treatments back in April to keep the mosquito population down, treating roughly 17 acres so far.
What’s Inside This Issue:
- Meet the 2026 MDC Team: Get to know the county’s Program Coordinator, Lauren Holder, alongside Program Technicians Julia Graziano and Logan Dickson.
- New Equipment Purchase: Learn how their new second ULV truck sprayer will optimize operations, allowing two trucks to conduct community control simultaneously on high-risk nights.
- Hanover Township Cleanup: A look back at a collaborative cleanup event along Pine Run Road, where volunteers collected 60 bags of trash and 120 tires to eliminate stagnant water breeding grounds.
- In the Community: Highlights from “Nature Discovery Day,” where staff taught 500 local students how to identify mosquito larvae and recognize the tiny size of deer tick nymphs using poppy seeds.
